Our meeting this week was packed full of good stuff!

Gary started the meeting by sharing 3 fundraising events that we would partner with the Lenexa Rotary Club on:  Lenexa Art Fair in May, Lenexa BBQ Contest in June, and the Lenexa Chili Challenge in October (which our club already participates in).  After discussion, we agreed that our club should participate in all 3.  We'll get more information out to the club regarding how you can help volunteer as we get closer to each event!

We also discussed an opportunity to watch a Kansas City Current women's soccer game this year.  This would be open to family and friends as well!  Gary is going to get a couple of dates and we can decide what date works best for most.

Upcoming events:

•  March 26th – Gathering for Good:  District 5710 fundraiser benefiting the RI Foundation at Prairie Band Casino
•  April 7th - Virtual Music Bingo:  Club fundraiser benefiting CASA and Veterans Community Project
•  April 9th – Sleep in Heavenly Peace Bed Building Project:  Our club recently donated $3,000 towards beds for kids here in Kansas City!  In addition, many of our club members will be volunteering on the 9th to help build those beds!
•  April 23rd – Learn to Curl Membership Drive - If you're interested in learning more about our club, this is a great chance to come spend some fun time with other Rotarians!  Please CONTACT US if you would like to join us on the 23rd!
•  May 7th - Lenexa Art Fair:  More information to come on how our club will be involved at this event.

Our speaker for the evening was Coach Joel Applebee, head football coach at Mill Valley High School.  Coach Applebee has been leading the Mill Valley Jaguars football program for over 12 years.  Since 2015, Mill Valley has won 5 Class 5A State Championships, including their most recent Championship a few months ago in 2021!  While we're sure Coach Applebee could talks for hours about the X's and O's of football, most of his time speaking to our club was spent talking about player development - not as football players but personal development as they grow into adults.  He also shared their team's motto:  1-0.  He explained this is a reminder that each of his players should live in the moment and not get distracted by other things - football or otherwise.  And he encourages giving 100% in that moment!

Our next club meeting is Tuesday 3/22 at 5:15p at the Blue Moose in Lenexa.  We would love to have you join us!  Please check out our LEARN MORE page if you'd like to better understand what Rotary can do for you!
